By Singing Light

Pretty much everything here originally appeared at my actual blog: By Singing Light. I particularly focus on upper middle-grade and young adult books. I also enjoy adult genre books, especially speculative fiction.

Inkheart - Cornelia Funke, Anthea Bell I’ve read rave reviews for this book. Maybe it’s the fact that I read it while I had a cold, but it didn’t seem quite that good to me. It was definitely engaging and interesting, and I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I’d read it again, but as of this reading it won’t be on my favorites list. (September 2007)

I read this once a few years ago and really didn’t get it. As I remember, I was sick at the time. On re-reading it, I understood why several of my friends love this book so much. All the bits about reading books and loving books and caring for them were great. And it seemed like there was an interesting sub-plot about the role and responsibility of a writer for his or her creation. [May 2010]
