By Singing Light

Pretty much everything here originally appeared at my actual blog: By Singing Light. I particularly focus on upper middle-grade and young adult books. I also enjoy adult genre books, especially speculative fiction.

The Blood Keeper (The Blood Journals) - Tessa Gratton I read Blood Magic, Gratton's first book, when it came out and it was okay. I wasn't amazed by it, but I didn't dislike it either. But I'd been hearing good things about Blood Keeper in the blogosphere and decided to take a chance. I'm so glad I did. Gratton completely blows the first book out of the water. Blood Keeper is a beautifully written story from first to last, with compelling characters. I loved Mab, who is proud and responsible and makes mistakes. To me, she read as entirely human and therefore sympathetic--the mistakes she made weren't out of malice and only made me want to hug her (more discussion here). Also, Will! Will is awesome! I loved and totally bought the romance.
