Pretty much everything here originally appeared at my actual blog: By Singing Light. I particularly focus on upper middle-grade and young adult books. I also enjoy adult genre books, especially speculative fiction.

Terrible Typhoid Mary: A True Story of the Deadliest Cook in America - Susan Campbell Bartoletti

YA non-fiction about Mary Mallon. Bartoletti is pretty good at not including guesswork as fact (pet peeve!) and she shows both why the authorities took certain actions with Mallon, and why that might be a problem. All in all, a good non-fiction for solid middle grade readers.
